Young, ambittious and strong nerves. Antje Möldner associates each of these attributes. The young lady from SC Potsdam is on
the way to achieve the top of 1500 meters. After her sixth place at the European Indoor Championship in Madrid and her new
personal best 4:08,81 minutes, she initiate her development for Erfurt. At the European U23 Championships she wants to win a medal.
"My dad, who was a walker too, send us to the athltics training even when I was young. He did`nt want that we are watching
TV the whole day. This was the beginning of my sports career." It shaped up as a truer stroke of luck. Over the years the twin
sisters Antje and Berit turned from couch-potatoes into middle distance runners.
While Berit quit her career in succession of an injury at her heel a few years ago, Antje Möldner becomes better and better.
Since five years Beate Conrad is her coach, who was able to run 1500 meters in 3:59,90 minutes.
Martin Conrad, son of the coach and Youth Indoor Champion in 800 meters is areliable associate for her training. Actually
Kathleen Friedrich, multiple German Champion, belongs to her training group, but the units which they train together are very
rare. "Her poficiency is much higher than mine", says Antje Möldner.
Dream of Beijing
Sport is her live. Twelve times a week she puts on the training clothes, ties her running shoes and hits the road to
the stadium, whether the sun is shining or not. Antje Möldner has a great aim, which is profitable to fight: the
Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing. In the german athletics team she belongs to the hopeful talents on the middle distance
and that`s the reason for her nomination as the only 1500 meters runner in the Top- Team- Cadre of Beijing.
Even her apprenticeship at the Federal Boarder Guard fits perfectly to her philosophie of live. "I get the liberty for doing
sport professionally", says the 20 years of age woman who knows the appreciates of her job. Additional is the positive backing
from her parents. They accept the way of her strong- minded daughter.
Born to be a competitive athlete
It is not only the occupational and familiar atmosphere, which gives her power and support. "She has those characteristics
inherently, which are really preferable for an athlete", Beate Conrad compliments her protégé for this. "To give above than 100
percent in competition is absolutely her strength.
The duo Conrad-Möldner is connected by a special coach-athlete-relationship - they are almost friends. Since she was an youth,
Möldner is coached by Beate Conrad. In 2003 Antje reach a respectable sixth place at European Youth Championships.
Coach believes: "Antje can do everything"
The big breakthrough she succeded in March 2005. At the European Indoor Championships she became the Shooting- Star of the
DLV- Team by achieving the sixth place at 1500 meters. "It was such a great atmosphere, a real gooseflesh experience",
the 1,73m tall runner remembers.
In Dessau two weeks ago she continued her achievements where she stopped indoors. With 4:08,81 minutes she update her personal
best over six seconds.
In Erfurt she wants to win a medal. "To reaching this aim I have to run a secure time between 4:06 and 4:08", she knows and
her coach adds "Antje is able to". Even though the qualification time is with 4:05,80 minutes very fast but Beate Conrad
believes "even Helsinki is possible."
The debit is achieved
I believe Antje is able to run this time but I won´t put the bite on her. With the result from Dessau she achieved the debit
for 2005. All better results in the next time are an addition. You can be curios about the coming performances of Antje
Möldner in the further sommer. One thing we know for sure: she performs with 150 percent.
