[30.05.2005] In Götzis (Austria) Carolina Klüft, the Olympic heptathlon Champion has
confirmed her planned start at the European U23 Championships in Erfurt (14- 17 July). With that Thuringia
presents a real superstar to the athletics scene in the middle of July, which the fans may be looking forward to.
"I like to compete in long jump", tells the Swede, well known as a spirited and lively athlete. She also
announced to defend her titel. In Bydgoszcz (Poland) at the European U23 Championships she
won the gold medal with 6,86 meters. With her personal best of 6,92 meters (Indoor, Swedish record) and 6,97 meters (Outdoor) she
belongs to the world´s elite. She also won the bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships in Budapest.
With the competition in Erfurt, the 22 year-old woman comes back to Germany to another continental major event.
At the European Championships in Munich three years ago she advanced to a new star in heptathlon. After winning
the World Champion title 2003 in Paris and the Olympic victory last year, she is one of the most treasured and
popular athletes at the international athletic circus.
Last weekend in Götzis Carolina Klüft presented herself in great shape. She collected 6.824 points, in long jump
she achieved notable 6,68 meters.
Besides the European U23 Championships the World Championships in Helsinki are her great personal aim this
summer. It´s possible that she will also compete in the Swedish 4x100 meters relay apart from heptathlon.
In addition to Carolina Klüft there are also other Swedish candidates for a medal competing in Erfurt: Linus
Thörnbald (high jump), Magnus Lohse (shot put)
