An exciting and high quality European Athletics Under 23 Championships 2005 reached their conclusion today in the
German town of Erfurt.
Agoston Schulek (HUN), EAA Vice President and Organisational Delegate for the event summed
up the success of the Championships:
“The European Athletics Under 23 Championships here in Erfurt have been a great success. They are a very important
competition for the EAA, the national federations and the athletes in this age group. There is a special atmosphere at
the Championships, a good camaraderie between the athletes who are all of a similar age.
“We have had some top results and seen some very interesting competitions. The EAA would like to thank the Local Organising
Committee, the German Athletics Federation, the city and regional authorities and the supporters of the event for making it possible.
“Everything has been very well organised here, not just in the stadium but also the accommodation and the transport. The
spectators understand and enjoy athletics and have created a special atmosphere in the stadium. I will remember in particular
when the combined events athletes all did a lap of honour together and received a standing ovation. There are no losers at
this competition, all those taking part – athletes, coaches, organisers, officials, volunteers – are winners.
“I hope that Erfurt will benefit from the refurbished stadium and host other major competitions in the future.”
